Hannes Schmid was born 1946 in Zurich, Switzerland, graduated as an electrical- and light engineer and studied photography at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town, South Africa.

Travelled through Africa. Photographed landscapes and portraits of Inhabitants like the El Molos on Lake Turkana. Climbed the Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt etc.
